Lovely Linda Ledbetter cracked me up with her post title on Monday, and I sure hope she finds duplication flattering. Who loves ya, Baby?
This week at Grungy Monday 36 we're working on Valentine's, Tim Holtz style. If only Linda would pick themes I like.
All of Linda's Grungy Monday challenges are in honor of Tim Holtz. Today I took her Valentine theme and pulled out a bunch of older textured grunge pieces.
I laid them out on my black tag and saw I needed eighteen. These are pre-cut embossed grunge squares.
First I painted gesso on, dried, sanded the edges, and then added Fired Brick distress ink (Ranger) and Rose Quartz ink spray (Dylusions).
I laid them out again and stamped two of Tim's stamps (wild flower stems and butterflies) across them in black archival ink. After it all dried, I added black archival ink to the edges and black Enamel Accents dots to random squares and across the top strip.
My black heart is Tim's Sizzix die with a pink eyelet and black thread. I roughed up the edges with his distressor. The tiny heart is chipboard, gessoed and colored, then stamped with a script stamp. The big black letters are Tim's alpha pieces, and the black strip on top is an on-the-edge Sizzix die.
I'm adding this to My Mojo Monthly, where Sara has a theme of heart strings. Take your time over at Sara's site... this is not an "oh, can I link up one piece to fifteen different challenges?" sort of thing. Really... read her stuff and take it in. You won't be disappointed.
For my part this month tied into Sara's theme, I wanted to make my own piece and to stray a bit from the more traditional Valentines in Blogland this month. I love the idea of taking a prompt and just thinking of random ways you can go with it. And it always feels good to use up so much older stash.
Thank you so much for visiting!
Marjie

HI Marjie,
I loooove squares and this tag is fabulous! Great subtle background texture and a lovely shade of red - the rose spray really transforms it and the black shabby heart and bold letters look perfect! Thanks so much for sharing your work with My Mojo Monthly! Sarah.

Brilliant use of the squares. The colour choice has impact and it is that step away from the traditional red and black.

Marjie, thanks so much for visiting my blog and leaving comment love. I came to visit you, and I'm pleasantly surprised how many other places we both like to visit. I'm more of a lurker, but still...winkwink. Love your art pieces and how you describe your process in making them! xoxo, Aimeslee

Wonderful tag- so much fun that you took it your own direction! Love that you used up older stuff to do it- I am in the process of using up or letting go of things in my studio to make more space.
