I have never done Tim's faux patina technique before, and I don't know why not... I can't believe how quick and easy it is! I have to send a shout out to Linda Ledbetter for the inspiration. I've used the technique on the (formerly copper) ornate plate and brads.
Linda's leading a weekly challenge based on techniques found in Tim Holtz's new book, The Compendium of Curiosities, Volume 2.
I don't know how you'd classify this... it's a tag, an ATC, and a ticket all rolled into one. I made the tag with distress inks, the Artistic Stamper grid stamp, and one of Tim's Sizzix embossing folders. The ATC is stamped with black archival ink and dipped in beeswax. I was inspired to play with beeswax and my Melting Pot over the weekend thanks to Linda Cain. Beware.... you can easily lose yourself and spend hours over there admiring all her fantastic creations!
The ticket is the latest craze over at the All Things Tim yahoo group, where Stephen (one of the group moderators) has sparked phenomenal interest in using a very small die as a base for art. He shared this video and a whole lot of us started rethinking how to use the Sizzix ticket die. I've used part of an Acey Deucey stamp on mine, colored the main image with Tim's new distress markers, applied the Glossy Accents, and then inked the remainder with Distress Inks. I made a bunch of tickets over the weekend and will be using them in days to come.
The bottom of my tag is cut with Tim's Sizzix ornate On-the-Edge die and I've added a bit of rick rack and ribbon. The ticket is attached with a trinket pin, also altered with the faux patina technique.
I'll add this to Sarah's April Mojo Monthly challenge and to the butterfly challenge at Our Creative Corner. I'm loving the creative sparks we're getting from Linda each week and hey, you've gotta love a butterfly hat. I so enjoy gathering inspiration from lots of sources and pouring them into my own thing. I've got another butterfly coming for OCC later in the week, but I couldn't resist adding this one... the lady's headgear cracks me up!
Wishing you a wonderful week!
Marjie

This is just ever-so-wonderful, and now I have to do Technique 2 for the CC2C (was going to skip that one, because I thought I didn't want to do metal stuff), and I have to check into beeswax. You have my head spinning (again). Fantastic!

I love the purple patina. I didn't think of going for a nontraditional color but I love this.

Wow, so gorgeous! Off to check out the Patina technique!! I'm interested to hear about the beeswax - why do you do that? Does it make a glossy accent type finish but matt?
Posted by: Helen Tilbury | 04/23/2012 at 05:49 PM
Gorgeous tag, love the colors of your faux patina!!!!
Posted by: Carol | 04/23/2012 at 07:22 PM
Thanks, Helen! The beeswax seals it and makes a very cool matte finish, which is pretty neat in person on top of the dry embossed, raised background of the tag. So in this case it's a smooth layer between the dry embossed base and the metal, ticket, fiber, etc.

Love it! I need to try that one too! I keep hoping to get into the challenges again, and I've gotta get back to the ATT group. I got too overwhelmed and had to take a break from the emails, but just didn't get a chance to check it out at the site. I saw her video a while ago and just couldn't get over what all she did with those tickets! She's got some amazing artistic talent. Also I was just looking at my beeswax the other day and thinking to start working with it. Guess this was my confirmation. LOL. I'll have to check out Linda's site. Thx for the info.
