This week's challenge at Studio L3 is sponsored by Simon Says Stamp and we're to whip up a pocket watch from Tim Holtz's Idea-ology line. Linda's weekly challenges are based on Tim Holtz's fabulous technique book, The Compendium of Curiosities, Volume 2. This week's challenge is based on page 35.
Our Creative Corner is also having a Tim Holtz theme, and they ask you to show a specific technique. So in addition to the pg 35 technique, I've used one of my current faves of Tim's which is blending distress ink and distress ink markers.
After stamping the butterfly with archival ink, I masked it and added some background stamping using distress inks. Then I removed the mask and colored in the butterfly with distress markers before covering the entire thing with distress inks using a blending tool. I love how the different mediums play together and don't bleed at all.
I used some favorite metal bits and bobs from Tim's Idea-ology line and diecut the word 'fly' from one of his Sizzix dies. I couldn't pierce the pocket watch with my spinner/brad on the butterfly body, so I cut off the brad prongs and glued on the brad head. The words 'my love' are also Idea-ology.
Thanks so much for the visit. Have a great week!

As always I love your work. The "Fly my love" is perfect for my multiple airplane flying husband. I wish I had thought of that sentiment. Oh well…may just steal it for later.
