I'm so happy to be joining Art Journal Cafe as their Guest Designer this month! A new challenge starts today, and it's to Save a Page... as in returning to one you abandoned because you didn't like the way it turned out. It's a good challenge.
My page in need started out with a partially painted background topped with stenciling. It wasn't working one bit. I added more paint but didn't want to cover the whole thing, in hopes some of that bottom layer would work. Here's how it looked before I had a better idea:
Hideous! I decided to liven it up with Dylusions Ink Sprays on some parts of the page, let them dry, then covered the page with Tim's tissue wrap:
I smooshed it on roughly, intentionally causing wrinkles as I adhered it to the page with gel medium. Then I colored with water soluble oil pastels and gelatos. It started looking better. I like the way the colors appear to be blending above and below the tissue wrap:
I added some stenciling, stamped the arrow (Stampers Anonymous) repeatedly, and stamped the lady (Stampland) onto plain white tissue paper:
The tissue always looks better when it has a torn edge rather than scissor cut. I adhered it with gel medium and used water color crayons to color it, the heart, and some outlines here and there:
So that's my Save Your Page contribution for Art Journal Cafe. I won't go into all the details on why I made it this way, but it's meaningful to me.
Thanks so much for the visit. See you at AJC!
Marjie
What a transformation - I love your smooshed tissue paper full of colour and fantastic stamping! Am cross with myself that I didn't get round to the 30 minute page, and I'll have to sit this one out as I've only done two journalling pages in total so far, so not that much I want to change yet!! Another inspirational piece of journalling here - thank you!

I like the idea " save a page" ... I think I have lots of candidates to go and take a second look at! Seeing how this evolved reminds me to think in small increments ... thanks for the step by step!

Love your page! What a great challenge too :). So cool that you've stamped on tissue paper. I do it for backgrounds, but never for a front image. Hugs, Sandra

I liked it when it was hideous, in your words and would be very happy indeed if I could even create that! However, your transformation is wonderous, love the wrinkled tissue wrap, the colours are divine and like the way those bold arrows point to the beautiful moon lady. You really are the mistress of all things blue, I could look at this for ages........Crafty hugs, Anne x

It was great getting to meet you in person at Dina's class on Sat. I am new to this kind of journaling (usually do cards) so it was so much fun. Thanks for the tip about the storing of the stencils. It looks like it will work great for me. Your journal piece about is just glorious. I love the colors and all the layering. I need to get a journal and start learning this. All the best!

I have fallen in love with this. That lady is such a sensational stamp and such a fabulous choice to stamp her onto tissue paper to blend into the actual page.
Simply stunning

P.S. I also love the way you used a heart.
