We have a neat challenge right now over at Frilly and Funkie using a Tic Tac Toe board. Each participant gets to choose the elements she/he wants to use. Here's the inspiration board Linda Coughlin dreamed up:
I went diagonally from the top left corner, using Metal, Metallic Distress Stains, and Buttons. I altered a canvas frame. The canvas soaked up my blue and green distress inks beautifully. Then I layered on some stenciling before edging all the sides and openings with Tarnished Bronze Metallic Distress Stain. I was amazed how smoothly the metallic stain blended into the canvas.
I added paint to one of Tim's word bands and had more success than I've had before:
The trick for me was using a rag instead of a paper towel or baby wipe, and then immediately going around the words with a Q-tip I had "dipped" into a baby wipe. Weird, I know, but so much more effective than previous attempts.
Last step was to adhere the required buttons with Matte Medium, which dries clear. Now I'm in the mood for more altering!
Hope you will visit the design team at Frilly and Funkie and join us for this challenge. It's open through Tuesday, November 13, and there's a $25 store credit for a random winner and a blog badge for the design team favorite.
Thanks for visiting!
Marjie

Wow those inks still show such vibrancy of colour even though they have soaked in well. Love the stencilled look on this.
Are you getting settled back into your house now? Fancy you seeing my tag on Pinterest, that's amazing.
Your card has arrived but not reached Becca yet, hopefully Thursday or Friday, thanks so much for getting one made and sent over.

That is so cool. How did you get the "roof" peak on the canvas?

Love the bright colours and how you've used the distress stain. Good to see you're fully back creating - hopefully your life is returning to some form of normality.
Looks like a great challenge - if I get the time, I'll have a go!

Hi Marjie, love the gorgeous blues and greens on your canvas, I have never seen a canvas picture frame before but the stencilling and the metallic distress stains really take front and centre stage - it's quite simply - gorgeous. Good to see you crafting at home again! Crafty hugs, Anne x

So cool - that's the line I've just played, and with completely different results!! What a fantastic canvas: I love the stencilled, blended ink, and the metallic "frames" really pop. Great tip on the metal word strip too - I just got really messy doing my word stick!! Thanks, as ever, for the great inspiration you provide...

This is a real treasure Marjie. The pictures you add will be made even more special by being framed in this way. Thanks for some amazing inspiration here. Hugs, Buttons x
ps. hoping you are not being too badly affected by the cold weather there now, and that the power/heat is up and running asap.

Isn't that word band the perfect touch for this canvas. Then the colours you have built up so gloriously.
This is most certainly a very special way to display photographs you will eventually be adding.

Looks fab!! Beautiful colours and the blending is seamless. Thanks for the tip. I tend to grab wetwipes for everything but I've also noticed that cloths do a great job - what I do is buy fine bandaging and use that, just cut off how much I need - as it's a small roll to store at the side of my desk where space is limited for me...
