She Who Stamps & Scraps

The Kathryn Wheel, Part 3

March is here, so it's time for a new page in my calendar project, which was the brainchild of the very talented Kate Crane.  The background is a mix of watered-down acrylic paints and Color Wash sprays by Ranger.

I used more of the Wonderland paper from 7 Dots Studios for my days of the month, cutting circles and distressing the edges with white paint. I used tiny Jenny Bowlin stickers for the dates.  I sanded the big white chipboard letters and colored them with a number of Color Wash sprays (Ranger).  I used Dyan Reaveley's stencils and stamps with gel medium, black archival ink, a white pen, and white paint.

Leap Year Layout

Today's my last time as Visiting Artist at Gingersnap Creations, where the theme is Things That Leap.  The gorgeous background paper is from 7 Dot Studios. It's their new Wonderland collection, which I'm loving.

The title letters were originally a very shiny brown. I dulled them with sandpaper and then recolored with different Ranger Color Washes. The leap year letters, red numbers, and metal (Ideology) are Tim Holtz, and the tan numbers are Jenny Bowlin. I forget where I got the Scrabble letters; the notebook punch is Fiskars.

This was a piece of 12X12 paper that I cut down.  I used a strip of text paper (spritzed with Color Wash) to cover the seam and then finished off the bottom with a strip I'd run through the notebook punch... this enabled me to keep the dark edging on all sides, even the cut ones.  Hope that makes sense.... that there are no white cut lines, just good grungy edges.

As this month Scrapbookers Anonymous has a "G" theme going, I'm hoping the gears on my clock will count.

Art Journaling: Words of Wisdom

It's my great pleasure to be one of the two Visiting Artists at Gingersnap Creations for the month of February.   This week's theme was Words of Wisdom.  Pretty heavy stuff!  I hemmed and hawed for a few days and then asked my kids what they thought of when they heard that phrase.  My eleven year old said "Fortune Cookies!" and I very quickly knew just what I wanted to do. Even better, it required a trip to buy some FCs, so he got a little payback for his idea.

Here's a pic of stage one...I painted my white pages with gesso and then used gel medium to attach some paper bits and scraps that were laying on my desk.  Then I added some green water color paint, but didn't like the result:

I added acrylic paints and Ranger Color Washes in a variety of layers. After attaching and painting my fortunes and a few 7 Dots Studio stickers, I started stamping:

The final stages included more layers of color, stamping, and stenciling of distress and archival inks:

Oh, and here are the fortunes:

* Better ask twice than lose yourself once.

* Knowledge and not doing are equal to not knowing at all.

* Love is the affinity which links and draws together the elements of the world.

* Forgive the action, forget the intent.

* Trust is earned by many deeds.

* Consume less. Share more. Enjoy life.

* Integrity is doing the right thing even if nobody is watching.

* In the end, all things will be known.

* Nothing is so mcuh to be feared as fear.

Creative Scrappers Sketch 191

I made this layout with papers from the Dreamer collection from 7 Dots Studio... I started out with this sketch from Creative Scrappers:

I love the way the page turned out, but I had loads more pics to include so I made another page to face it, and included a pocket to hold an additional stack of photos.  Here it is: 

I used distress inks, Dylusions spray inks, stamps, stencils, punches, chipboard letters, metal corners, brads, and ball chain.  Here's the spread:

7 Dots Studio Canvas, Part 2

I'm so happy with the way this canvas came out.  I've already hung it on the wall right next to my work table.  

It makes me smile.

7 Dots Studio Canvas, Part 1

Paper Piecing With a Twist is the theme at Our Creative Corner this week, hosted by the very talented Vicky Burdick. Vicki asks us to stamp something and then paper-piece part of it with designer paper. The only other restrictions are to use no ribbon, and only one embellishment.

I've fallen in love with the Dreamer Collection from 7 Dots Studio.  These are just the most gorgeous papers. I used an Acey Deucy stamp, stamping  my lady repeatedly on different papers from the Dreamer line.  Cut out the parts and layered them on a tag I'd also cut from Dreamer, using my Tim Holtz Sizzix die.  It's all resting on an 8X10 canvas I painted with watered-down acrylic paints.

In keeping with the restrictions, I used only one embellishment (stickers) and no ribbon. I stopped at this, but didn't feel it was finished.  This is one of the things that I find difficult about working with specific parameters. I love challenges, but often I just want to go further and see where things take me.  Anyway, I finished it up last night and will show you tomorrow what I came up with in Part 2. Hope you'll pop back over.... I really love the way it came out!

Also, I want to make a shout-out to Patti at Absolutely Everything.  AE is a fantastic brick and mortar store in Massachusetts, and I've happily traveled there more than once for Tim's classes. They also have an online store with great inventory and super fast shipping, mostly because of Patti's amazing customer service.  She ships with the speed of light! I definitely recommend you give them a try next time you need supplies.
