Creative Scrappers Sketch 192

I made this layout based on the following sketch from Creative Scrappers:

I used Basic Grey papers, 7 Gypsies tags, and my Cricut for the stars.  Lots of Color Wash and Distress Inks from Ranger. The dark red border edges are the remnants from pages torn from a watercolor pad, spritzed heavily with Cranberry Color Wash.  I also painted over all the tags and scraps with watered down Color Washes.

Art Journaling: Words of Wisdom

It's my great pleasure to be one of the two Visiting Artists at Gingersnap Creations for the month of February.   This week's theme was Words of Wisdom.  Pretty heavy stuff!  I hemmed and hawed for a few days and then asked my kids what they thought of when they heard that phrase.  My eleven year old said "Fortune Cookies!" and I very quickly knew just what I wanted to do. Even better, it required a trip to buy some FCs, so he got a little payback for his idea.

Here's a pic of stage one...I painted my white pages with gesso and then used gel medium to attach some paper bits and scraps that were laying on my desk.  Then I added some green water color paint, but didn't like the result:

I added acrylic paints and Ranger Color Washes in a variety of layers. After attaching and painting my fortunes and a few 7 Dots Studio stickers, I started stamping:

The final stages included more layers of color, stamping, and stenciling of distress and archival inks:

Oh, and here are the fortunes:

* Better ask twice than lose yourself once.

* Knowledge and not doing are equal to not knowing at all.

* Love is the affinity which links and draws together the elements of the world.

* Forgive the action, forget the intent.

* Trust is earned by many deeds.

* Consume less. Share more. Enjoy life.

* Integrity is doing the right thing even if nobody is watching.

* In the end, all things will be known.

* Nothing is so mcuh to be feared as fear.

OCC - Sketch Challenge

This week at Our Creative Corner we have a sketch challenge for you from our host, Wendy Janson.  I used 7 Gypsies papers on mine.

I cut the circles and sentiment from the Cricut George & Basic Shapes cartridge.  The notebook border strip is an EK Success punch.  The little tag is also 7 Gypsies and the word is a stamp.  I added a few black metal photo anchors and brads, and edged everything in black soot distress ink.  Here's Wendy's challenge sketch:

Wendy Vecchi Challenge ~ Thank my Lucky Stars

This week we're using Art Parts and at least one Studio 490 stamp in the challenge at the Wendy Vecchi yahoo group, and stars at both Simon Says Stamp and Show and Sunday Stampers.

My Art Parts are the rectangle base and the row of 5 stars.  I covered the base with Bo Bunny Paper that I had stamped with Wendy's shooting stars stamp in wild honey distress ink.  I liked that the BB paper had a scalloped design like some of the other Art Parts I considered using.  

I used my Cricut and a small star punch, 7 Gypsies gaffer tape, Prima's black pearls, wooden words from Li'l Davis, and my Crop-o-Dile to set eyelets from which to hang Tim's ball chain.  

I stamped the wooden words with two of Wendy's large background stamps in Timber Brown Staz-On, and colored the little white bead letters with Butterscotch Alcohol Ink.  

I really like the weight and stability the Art Parts give to the project, and I love the contrast of the thick wooden words with the rounded pearls.

Home...May You Find Comfort & Rest

My post title is the sentiment stamp I used on this card. Wouldn't it be great if we all found peace at home?  I used a Studio 490 stamp for Hels Sheridan's Sunday Stamper Week 168 which has a theme of homes/houses.  

This photo is from my Grandmother's house, and she's pictured with 5 of her 6 children in the late 1930s. It's not a great photo in terms of clarity, but film was super-expensive then and it was a big deal that they took the picture at all.  She lived in that house with my grandfather till they were each in their mid-90s, and had been married over 70 years.

I've recently become familiar with Lisa Somerville's weekly challenge, and I'm jumping in for this week's sketch challenge:  Bloggers Challenge #226.  My papers are Basic Grey. The photo is showing purple but really this is a rich brown with hints of pink/purple a lot more subtle than they show in the pic. Think browns and greens behind a sepia photo.

I used my Cricut to cut the large circle, stamped it with a Hero Arts script stamp in Timber Brown Staz-on and then embossed with clear powder.  I heat embossed the Studio 490 sentiment the same way, added some faux pearls around the circle and a Foofala fabric flourish on top. Everything is edged in Ranger's brushed corduroy distress ink.

Our Creative Corner - Sketch Challenge

It's Saturday so time for another challenge at Our Creative Corner.  This week Vicki is hosting and she's designed an interesting sketch to spark your creativity.  Here it is, with my take on it:

                 
 
My papers are Graphic 45 and the little sentiment is on an inked scrap of manila file folder.  

I cut a few of the butterflies out and raised their wings before applying rock candy distress stickles to the top for a bit of sparkle.  Glossy Accents holds them in place.

Mojo Monday Week 202

I made this card for this week's challenge at Mojo Monday.  

Based on the sketch below, I used some older Basic Grey paper (Vagabond line), a Studio 490 (Wendy Vecchi) sentiment, some shapes cut with my Cricut, a few copper brads, and black soot distress ink around all the edges.

I intentionally placed the starbursts askew, and it looks pretty good in real life, but notsomuch in the pic.  Oh, well!  Live and learn.

Mojo Monday: Basic Grey to the Rescue

Every time I play along on a sketch challenge, I'm happy.  It might take a while to decide where I'm going, but I always like the way their prompts led me somewhere.   This week at  Mojo Monday was no exception.  I used Basic Grey's Recess line for my card, thinking it would be nice for a graduation card.  How cool is that paper?!?!?  It's all from the Recess line and I used some of Ranger's black Enamel Accents around the sentiment.

All the pencils are part of the pre-printed paper.  I cut out an extra pencil and placed it over my design element on the left so it would appear to flow.  Now I think I should've cut another one for the nib showing under the half circle, but too late for that!  The main shape is a cylinder from Cricut's George & Basic Shapes cartridge. Here's the sketch and my take:
