Tattered Florals Card and Take Ten Magazine

I made this card using Distress Inks and stencils, the Sizzix Tattered Florals die, and a Studio 490 sentiment stamp. I wanted to use one of Wendy Vecchi's new stencils and I chose the Fresh Flowers stencil. You get six shapes on the single stencil ~ three different flowers and three styles of stem.  Kim has all of Wendy's stencils in stock at Eclectic Paperie, including the new Brick Wall one that's on my wish list. (Santa has received a long wish list!)

The large black flower is dry embossed, the center one is heat embossed, and the small one on top is both dry and heat embossed. After stamping and dry embossing, I pressed the flowers into my Versamark pad and embossed with clear powder. 

I used spare chipboard pieces as spacers between the flowers to raise them up for added dimension. I also used Glass Bead Gel for the stem, which adds some really nice texture.  After the gel had set overnight, I used Dylusions Ink Sprays in a Water Brush to color the stem further.  The color soaked into the bead gel very nicely.

Love the way you can see the Glass Bead Gel but also see through it to the stenciling below. Last step was to dip the edges in Versamark and heat emboss them before mounting the panel to the black card. I'll enter this at Fashionable Stamping Challenges for their 'To Die For' challenge, the Wendy Vecchi Yahoo Group challenge, and Creative Every Day. I'd also like to share a card that was published in the Winter 2013 issue of Take Ten:

It has little stamping and plain cardstock, so it hardly feels like my style, but I made it for a Washi Tape challenge they had last spring. You have to submit so far ahead that sometimes it's nearly a year's wait to see if they accepted your submission.

Crazy Lady published in the new Stampers' Sampler

I was so psyched to see that The Stampers' Sampler accepted a piece I sent in for their torso template challenge! Mine is the one on the left. I made this with their torso template and a combination of stamps, distress inks, archival inks, distress markers, and Tim Holtz's (Sizzix) clock/time embossing folder.

Altered Couture ~ Article Published!

      
Last fall Stampington issued a Dollar DIY Challenge for their magazine, Altered Couture.  I figured I must be able to use ink and stamps to create some kind of accessories. I went to the dollar store and found three hair barrettes on a $1 card, so I was able to submit three projects for my buck.  

I was thrilled when they wrote asking me to write a whole article for the Summer issue.  My copy arrived yesterday with that cool yellow "You've been published" insert... so exciting!

I used my Sizzix Vagabond, three embossing folders (Sizzix and Cuttlebug), Ranger distress inks and embossing powder to make these:

There are lots of process photos and step-by-step instructions in the article.  If you see a copy, check out pages 87-89.   

I'll also enter this into the Anything Goes theme at Simon Says Stamp and Show.

Cloth Paper Scissors Gifts - Tim Holtz Ornaments

I'm so excited to share that I have four ornaments published in the holiday issue of Cloth Paper Scissors Gifts!  

I submitted to a call for ornaments for their black & white Christmas tree.  I used Tim Holtz's ornament and word dies (Sizzix) with foam core for three of the ornaments,  and a round metal tin with one of his holiday stamps and UTEE  for my fourth.  

I had no idea they were accepted and when I saw the issue on  a rack at Michael's on Friday, I quickly picked it up and went to the article.  Lo and behold, I'm on pages 41, 44, 45 and 46!

Great Mail Day

The mailman delivered a box with a few weeks' mail today and I couldn't have been happier with the contents.... I received three great things!  The first was an absolutely beautiful card from Silvia in Germany.  She won my Tim Holtz blog candy last month and sent this gorgeous steam punk card as a thank-you:  

I love Silvia's multi-colored gears and the embossed steam engine as well as that beautiful stamped background.  Her layers of colors are striking. Thank you so much, Silvia!  

Also in the delivery was a set of new Darkroom Door stamps that I will definitely be christening in the next few days.   And last but certainly not least, a copy of the new Stamper's Sampler shrink-wrapped with a "you've been published" insert.  Hooray!

The card that was published is meant to be a birthday card for my sister Cathy who will celebrate next month.  I'm sure there are a few people reading this (including Cathy) who will laugh out loud at the fact I have no idea where I put the actual card.  Hopefully it will turn up by the feast of her nativity. 

Till then, here's a peek at what a cutie she was on her 5th birthday back in 1960. She had only two sibs then.... with three more to join the family in years to come.  She's the oldest and I'm the youngest.  And always will be.

First Time Published!

 

Three of my cards were published in the new issue of Stamper's Sampler - Take Ten. I'm so excited! I started my blog in January and decided this was the year to start participating in challenges and submitting to magazines.  

It's funny... I do like these cards but they're a little too crisp and clean for my usual tim/wendy/7gypsies-ish style.  Now I'm more comfortable with myself and my style and am sending in things more reflective of  both.  

Anyway, thanks for all the support as I've gotten started here in blog land!  If you have the Summer 2011 issue, please check out my cards on pages 48 and 121.  I've added photos below but they're not so good... I didn't know how to take a decent photo back in January!

 

      

These two have the same layout design because they were submitted for the Design Challenge using a sketch with inverted squares/rectangles. The one below was for a Fun & Games Challenge.
