Photos and Metal and Flowers... oh My!

This is my spin on a layout I spied on Pinterest a few days ago by Kristin Cronin-Barrow.  If you'd like to see Kristin's layout, it's the newest pin on my Scrapbooking Pinterest board. I used Basic Grey papers that I customized with stamps and stencils.

The half circle on the left is stamped with the Darkroom Door Measuring Tape background stamp, and the one on the right is inked with jet black archival ink through a TCW elevator gate stencil.  I used the smaller version of that stencil to add interest to the yellow background paper. I edged the letter stickers with black soot distress ink and painted the wood frame black:

After running all the photos and blue sections through my Xyron® 5” Creative Station, I put the rick rack through the smaller Xyron® 1.5” Create-a-Sticker.  

I added faux stitching around the edges, Prima flowers, and Tim Holtz's Idea-ology ornate plate, flowers and brads.  The metal brings me to the Simon Says Stamp and Show challenge this week.

Creative Scrappers Sketch 192

I made this layout based on the following sketch from Creative Scrappers:

I used Basic Grey papers, 7 Gypsies tags, and my Cricut for the stars.  Lots of Color Wash and Distress Inks from Ranger. The dark red border edges are the remnants from pages torn from a watercolor pad, spritzed heavily with Cranberry Color Wash.  I also painted over all the tags and scraps with watered down Color Washes.

Creative Scrappers Sketch 191

I made this layout with papers from the Dreamer collection from 7 Dots Studio... I started out with this sketch from Creative Scrappers:

I love the way the page turned out, but I had loads more pics to include so I made another page to face it, and included a pocket to hold an additional stack of photos.  Here it is: 

I used distress inks, Dylusions spray inks, stamps, stencils, punches, chipboard letters, metal corners, brads, and ball chain.  Here's the spread:

Lucky Ducks

I'm playing along with a sketch challenge at Basic Grey today.  This layout uses their Jovial line. Everything is BG except my son's name (Jenny B stickers), his age is cut from a Tim Holtz/Sizzix die, and the date is on a Hambly overlay.  This was almost ten years ago and I still remember how thrilled he was to see that present on Christmas morning.  And how LOUD it was... all those ducks swam around the pond quacking nonstop while he 'fished' for them.  Time flies!

All the presents are from one of the Jovial papers. I cut them out and popped some on foam tape and left the rest flat.  Everything is edged in black soot distress ink.

I'm also putting this in today at Paper Issues for their Holiday Madness theme and at Anything Goes where the current theme is Anything but a Card.

Mojo Monday + 7 Dots Studio

Last week I was blog hopping and I found the most amazing new paper line from a manufacturer called 7 Dots Studio.  It's their Dreamer collection.  Fantastic papers... the colors are so vivid, it's like the most beautiful hand painted art journal pages you can imagine.  

I contacted the company to inquire about availablity in the US and they connected me with Martha Richardson who carries them in her etsy shop. (To the tune of it's a small world after all, I met Martha at an art journaling workshop in NYC a few months ago.)

Everything is from the 7 Dots Dreamer line except the vertical strip which is Tim Holtz's tissue tape, sprayed with Dyan Reaveley's Dylusions teal ink spray.

Mojo Monday & Gingersnap Creations

I'm combining the thank-you note challenge at Gingersnap Creations with the sketch from Mojo Monday this week.  Here's the sketch and my take on it:

      

I used Basic Grey papers (Recess), a Dyan Reaveley background stamp, a Crafters Workshop stencil, and Ranger Distress inks.  The sentiment is heat embossed with clear powder as is the black flower which I cut with my Cricut.

I'll share a little "oooops" about this in tomorrow's post... can't say until that project gets made... I'm sure you can guess where I'm going with THAT.

A note of thanks

Saturday means another challenge at Our Creative Corner, and this week we're led by the talented Wendy Janson!

Wendy's given us pumpkins as a theme - either the image or the color - you decide.  

I tore a scrap of some older Basic Grey embossed vellum and added a mix of Bo Bunny and Stampington papers.  I inked the circle and rectangle pieces with brushed corduroy distress inks and heat embossed, to tone them down so they'd look better with the vellum.  I used three EK punches (zigzag, scallop, and label), a butterfly from a magazine, and a few brads.  Everything is edged in black soot distress ink.

The layout of the card came from this sketch at Mojo Monday:

Simon Says Stamp & Show - One Color

It's been a pleasure to hear from so many bloggers about my Compendium of Curiosities giveaway.  It will be fun to see who the winner is on Halloween!  If you missed it, check the post at the top of my blog.... there's some serious Tim Holtz blog candy up for grabs!

Today I'm showing a tag for Simon Says Stamp & Show and also following the sketch at Mojo Monday.

I started by inking a few tags with scattered straw and brushed corduroy distress inks, then stamped them with script and patterned/textured stamps.

Used some Graphic 45 buttons, a metal tag, brads a few punches, and a cute mini clip from a company called Anticca.  The patterned paper that's the main panel is  Dream Street.

Mojo Monday Week 209

Hopping on the Mojo Monday sketch bandwagon this week with some Basic Grey papers, a bit of ribbon/fiber stash, sentiment stamp by Paula Best, script stamp by Hero Arts, and brushed corduroy distress ink.

This one's short and sweet because I am off to take a few classes at Art is You.  I'm really looking forward to meeting Keith Lo Bue and Michael deMeng - they work in assemblage, which has always interested me.  Will share what I learn down the road.

A Sketch and a Stamp

I found a nice sketch this week at Sketchy Thursdays and I've followed it here, using a photo of my beautiful niece, Rachel. I've recently asked several family members for permission to use their photos so you may start seeing some new blood around here... no offense to my dear boys, but it sure was fun making a girly layout with flowers.

Speaking of flowers, I was working on something yesterday and used a stamp I've had forever made by a company called Outlines Rubber Stamps.  Remembering how much I loved that stamp when I first got it, I googled them and found out they too have challenges (and a heck of a lot of really cool new images.) So I'm also entering this in their current challenge - Outlines Monday Challenge #16 - Picture This.

The specifics were to include a photo in your project and to only use their stamps.  I do mix and match stamps most of the time so that was tough, but I soldiered on through and used that one stamp repeatedly.  

The transparency over the photo is by Fancy Pants.  I love how the flowers on the top right had red and orange splashes of color, not to mention a bit of orange throughout and across the bottom where the words are printed.  Decided to match the grass as my background using Basic Grey Citron paper and some orange paper by Pink Paislee.  

The scalloped strip is one I made with Ranger's color washes....  I'm using them on a near daily basis now.  The large base circle under Rachel's age is also color washed. Everything is edged with Ranger's spiced marmalade distress inks. Thanks as always for your visit!  Please let me know what you think.  Here's the original sketch:
